KARACHI: Pakistan’s one-day international captain Misbah-ul-Haq praised MS Dhoni’s game-changing hundred while adding that Junaid Khan and Nasir Jamshed were the match winners for Pakistan.

“We were lucky to get the better of the conditions but India still gave us a tough time. It was more difficult to play in the first half, very well played by Dhoni,” Misbah said of Dhoni’s 113 not out while also admitting that Pakistan were lucky to get the better conditions.

Dhoni steadied his side, after coming in when they were tottering on 29 runs for the loss of five wickets in just 10 overs, playing a brilliant knock off 125 balls and giving India a fighting chance in the first ODI in Chennai which looked all but lost for the hosts after Junaid sliced through the top order.

Junaid, who finished with figures of 43-4, was also praised by the captain.

“The spell by Junaid Khan was very good. He has done it before in a Test match in Sri Lanka. Good to see that the bowlers pitched in the right areas in helping conditions,” Misbah added.

In reply to India’s 227, Nasir Jamshed was the rock for Pakistan after Bhuvenshwar Kumar took two quick wickets, playing out a calm and steady century to guide the tourists to a six wicket win.

“Nasir played an extremely good knock and showed the way by finishing the game,” Misbah said.

Dhoni, who was adjudged the man of the match for his innings, said his side had put up a good score which unfortunately was not enough in the end.

“I am happy with my batting. Once we lost five wickets, it was difficult to come back. We delayed the slog to get to a respectable score. 227 was a good score from where we were, but not enough in the end,” he said.

COMMENTS

  1. Nothing to praise about Pak skipper as he has never won any match single handedly instead Misbha being in the team is big loss from Pak cricket…..

    • Totally agree with you. We need our version of Kohli instead of Misban, his name is Usman Salahuddin.. check him out on cricinfo. He has average a mahoosive 78 in the current first class domestic season of Pakistan.. But, as they say in Pak cricket… where is politics, there is a way. Poor guys like him seldom get their chances.

  2. Indian cricket team NEVER praises us. They make it a point to mention strengths & weaknesses of their own players in interviews. By saying that the conditions were bad for playing, moronic Misbah undermined the efforts of Junaid Khan and Nasir Jamshed. Dhoni should NOT have been given the MOTM. It is pure racism on the part of Indian cricket officials. I only ask if Dhoni was a Pakistani and Junaid Khan & Nasir had been Indian players – and performed the way they did, and India had won the match – would a pakistani Dhoni still be given the MOTM???? NO.

  3. Should have also mentioned the Indian crowd. The most sporting I have seen yet from a subcontinent home nation . They cheered every 6, 50 and landmarks for the Pakistani players as well.

  4. Its amazes me when we keep praising Indian team for any of their effort but not once I heard from any indian team praising Junaid or Nasir performance or for any other occasion. Yeah sometimes you hear few complimentary words hear and there from the Indian team but that’s pretty much it.
I think Pakistan cricket team should focus on their good or bad performances not starting praising Indians because simply they don’t respond the same way.
I guess that’s what Shahid Afridi meant when our hearts are bigger then the Indians!

    • Really? do you know that most of the Indians think that Sachin is a batting god and Wasim Akram is a bowling God? comeon man, give me a break, stop skeptism and hatred, it is not true the way you think. You have to understand one thing there are good and bad people on both the side but there are people in the middle who should not get persuaded by the pad people. I consider Afridi is one of those bad people because he spreads too much hatred.

      • To whom are you explaining? On one hand Afridi was desperate to play in IPL and on the other hand criticizes us!

Moreover we do not have to prove our large heart when crowd cheers for Pakistani players even after knowing that it was their people who did 26/11 on us !! Do you we to prove anything after that !!!

  5. This was better.
I win and then You Win….No hardfeelings….Continue in 50 oves too.
No bashings No riots….and get friendly

  6. though misbha told but pakistan team desrve this one day series title bz better team wins in this tournament

  7. Misbah, this is the way you win hearts. Many congrats on the victory. Keep up the good work and the sports spirit. Good luck for the entire series.

    Ranganath, Banngalore

  8. We must not forget that MSDhoni was dropped by Misbah when he was on 16, later on MSD scored another 97 runs. In a way MSD must thank MH for his favour, otherwise, who knows India would have reached even 100 or not.

    • Every one get chances. Champions convert them. Dhoni took his brilliantly. One of the best knocks i have ever seen. Deserved Man of the Match. but it just couldnt steal victory from us.

    • We don’t live in what-ifs scenario. Dhoni capitalized on the chance and played a masterful innings in some of the most physically demanding conditions.

      • Few days back Dhoni was worst in eleven…
Let they practice….You win and then I win game
        Dont call it fixed…say Friendly!!!

    • yes you are correct, I think Nasir did seem to thank and smile at Yuvraj immediately after the winning runs were scored

    • Clever Misbah, trying to keep Dhoni in the mix. Will try for Tindulkar too. He wants to keep as much paper tigers in the opposition as he can.

  9. Hafeez is a good enough captain to replace Misbah. Gives us a choice to replace Misbah with a decent batsmen. I think Azhar Ali can play the part of tuk tuk

  10. Pakistan need some one like Misbah in all format of cricket as a captain.

  11. Nasir Jamshed deserved the man of the Match more.

  12. Appreciate his sportsmanship. Good luck to both teams for next matches.

  13. After humiliating defeat of India by Pakistan under leadership of great Imran……the deal for Pakistan playing in India is ‘either the series will be drawn or India will win…..’Yani Pakistan will never win there. What a rootu sport loving nation. & on top of all Pakistan go there to play with all the consent….as if they will die if they don’t play in India…..

  14. Why did he not comment on the support he extended to Dhoni for his century by dropping a sitter of a catch when Dhoni was playing at just 16? Also, the way he got bowled was just ridiculous. Misbah’s gentleness is also due to the fact that he has gone old and his reflexes in both batting and fielding have vanished, so he is trying to compensate listless performance by behaving like a extra-sugary gentleman. Pakistan needs a shrewd, astute, ruthless, performing all-rounder like Hafeez as captain in all the formats.

    • teams lose because of its mistakes, what would you say had some of the decisions by Indian empire gone India’s way, which should have and did not. Yuvi also dropped a sitter. when you mention “ruthless” i can only remember the Taliban.

  15. Great Remarks by Team Pakistan Captain. But I think organizers must keep the heroic innings of Nasir and suberb spell of Junaid in the back of their mind for future appreciation.

  16. Nation and relation building the real winner and take away from this excellent cricket series. Forgetting what has happened in the past , let us all enjoy the time we are together on the same page !

  17. Congrat Team Pakistan for 2nd victory in India. Sorry to see player of the match given to Dhoni, who scored run but failed to help India win the match as a player or captain. The player of the match should have been given to Nasir Jamshed or Junaid(for destroying India’s main batting line up)

  18. Can Pakistan get rid of Misbah! pathetic performance, he always becomes reason for Pakistan defeat.

  19. Maybe if Misbah was awake to take his catch when he was on 16 he would have not played this “heroic” knock..

  20. Excellent mature and correct remarks by Misbah. He said it like it was. Also, very nice of him to praise Dhoni’s batting.

      • Why do u guys in pakistan behave like this, full of hatred for India. Why dont you learn be more respectful in life. Only then will the world around give you some respect.

      • why we all people are so narrow minded…look his batting just…one chance he got and how well he converted that into a heroic knock. What about jamshed who got one decision in his favour and a drop catch by YUVI. These are jus part of a game anf one should admire the good cricket played by anyone.

  21. Just what I expect from Misbah. Always a gentleman cricketer.
    Gracious in victory.
    Congrats.

    • its Pakistanis’ usual style that they praise without any discremination unlike India who always give remarks coated in discrimination

      • Please be gracious like Misbah here

      • What kind of discrimination? Why are you generalizing Indians like that? When Pakistani cricketers visit here, they are treated like celebrities. We have lots of respect to Pakistani cricketers. We may not like few ones like Afridi who spew so much of venom against us for no reason. Just stop looking at us from a hateful eye and think that we are friends, you will not see us in the way you are seeing us currently.

    • Misbah is a a gentalmen cricketer, so was Inzamamul-haq…

      • Pakistan played well and they deserve to win this game. Good effort by MSD and his team to bounce back in the game but the effort was no enough to win the game.

    • I too have same opinion on Misbah…….he is excellent in n out of the field.
I still remember his best innings in first t20 world cup final match.
