LAHORE/VEHARI, Dec 31: An accountability court on Monday granted a two-day transit remand of Shahzad Saleem Bhatti to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Punjab.

Bhatti is a son of PPP MPA Khalid Saleem Bhatti and legal adviser of Tauqeer Sadiq, former chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.

Sadiq and other officials of the authority are involved in a reference made by the NAB accusing them of misuse of power and embezzlement of at least Rs44 billion.

The bureau arrested Shahzad Saleem from Burewala on Dec 30, and will produce him before a Rawalpindi accountability court on Jan 2.

Meanwhile, the Burewala Bar Association (BBA) observed a complete strike on Monday against the arrest of Shahzad Saleem.

Bar President Ayaz Ghuman and secretary-general Zahoor Dogar told reporters the arrest of Shahzad Saleem was illegal and unjustified.

They claimed the total amount of around Rs6 million had voluntarily been paid to the NAB in August 2012.

They threatened to spread the protest to the province level if the NAB did not release BBA member within two days.
