Why does our establishment of which the honourable author of this article is / was a “civilian member” never learn any lessons. For some reason Afghanistan has always been hostile to Pakistan, and has never reciprocated Pakistan’s overtures. Ever since Pakistan’s independence Afghanistan has been opposed to Pakistan; they never recognized the Durand Line, and in fact encouraged the Pakhtunistan propaganda machine. At the same time, the Afghans have been very warm towards India, and consider them a good friend. Pakistan should shed itself of its Afghan obsession and concentrate on rescuing itself from the menace of terrorism which is a byproduct of our “strategic depth” policy which has been a strategic disaster for our beloved homeland.
