KHAR: The three-day anti polio drive ended peacefully in Bajaur tribal region on Wednesday, but without covering hundreds of children in remote parts of the agency.

An official of the health deportment told media persons on Wednesday that as a result of the foolproof security for the health teams and support of the local people the three-day vaccination drive that had started on Monday ended peacefully as no unpleasant incident had taken place.

He appreciated the security measures extended to health workers, adding the response of the local people was very positive which encouraged the workers to carry out their duties with satisfaction.

He admitted that the target set for the current drive was not fully achieved as hundreds of children could not be vaccinated in remote areas of the agency.

The official said refusal cases in Utman Khail, Barang, and Salarzai areas increased during the current drive, adding health department had asked the administration to action against refusing parents.

He said the health department and the WHO had started close monitoring of the health teams, adding show cause notices had been issued to four officials for poor performance. He said these officials will be terminated soon.
