KARACHI, Jan 5: Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the Jamaat-i-Islami’s former chief, passed away in an Islamabad hospital of a heart attack late on Saturday night, according to television reports.

Senior JI leader Liaquat Baloch said Qazi Hussain Ahmed’s health worsened three days ago and he was brought from Peshawar to a hospital in Islamabad, where he died at around 1am.

His funeral will be held in Peshawar on Sunday at 3pm.

Qazi Hussain served as a member of the National Assembly as well as the Senate.

He joined Jamaat-i-Islami during the 1970s and remained its chief for 22 years.
