KALAYA, Jan 6: Ten militants died and several others were injured when fighter planes shelled their positions in the Upper Orakzai Agency on Sunday, security officials said.

The jets targeted the hideouts in the militants’ stronghold of Arghanjoo in Mamozai area, they said, adding that four hideouts were destroyed and 10 militants were killed.

Witnesses told Dawn that the planes came into action at around 10am and carried out intense shelling on four houses, razing them to the ground.

They said militants encircled the targeted area after the shelling and pulled out the dead and the injured from the debris. The dead belonged to Uthmankhel, Ferozkhel and Mamozai areas, they added.
