Mr.Tony,
It will be extremely for Mr.Irfan Husain to visit as he holds a Pakistani passport. For Indians and Pakistanis who are common citizens, it almost impossible to get a visa to visit each others country. What you read in the newspapers is propaganda. A Pakistani friend who applied for an Indian visa, was granted one after three months and that also for only two cities; with police reporting.
I hope this will change in the near future but at this time it is not possible to visit each other.

I honestly have problem comprhending the following statement from your writeup:

What “governing” are you talking about that our judiciary has made impossible? Did any such thing as “governing” ever existed during our present democratic era?

I too am from India and have traveled far and wide, but in my experience most cities are pretty much similar when it comes to refusing to abide by basic rules, e.g. traffic rules. In deep south it is even worse. Corruption level, government slackness etc. are pretty even across the country.

For two months we have lived on street food in Jakarta. And believe me, no problem we had. The people in those part of the world are far more cleaner. Even the maids who knock at your door every morning, are neatly dressed. It is the question of taste.

Those south east asian people are also more polite and courteous. they also speak in a lower tone unlike south asian people.

I liked the comment the local Vietenamese made “Rather bad choices than none, was his view”. I think this applies to most of the countries in the world, probably with exception of Scandinavian countries. In the US, the Tea Party which an integral part of the Republican party, leaves practically no choice but to vote Democrats who are reasonable. In SE Asia there are more parties than people. In India most of the regions/states have 3-4 regional parties which paralyze the central governance. Indeed!! most of the people in the world are left with the bad choices as talented individuals are staying away from politics.
