GHALANAI, Jan 7: Two security men were killed in a blast in Mohmand Agency while two hideouts of militants were destroyed in bombing by jetfighters in Khyber Agency on Monday, sources said.

They said that an improvised explosive device went off near Marghano Jala checkpost in Khwezai tehsil of Mohmand Agency, killing two security men and injuring another.

They said that security men were patrolling the area when the explosive device exploded. Havaldar Shafique Ahmed and sepoy Yaseen Khan were killed in the blast. Another soldier was injured in the incident. He was shifted to Peshawar.

In another incident, tribal elder Malik Amir Nawaz Khan escaped a remote controlled bomb blast at Kassai area of tehsil Haleemzai on Monday.

Officials said that Malik Amir Nawaz was going to Sangar village to attend a jirga when the blast occurred. He escaped unhurt.

Soon after the incident, sniffer dogs were brought to the area to trace the culprits. A suspect was detained for interrogation.

In Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency, jetfighters targeted militant hideouts. Sources said that the hideouts were pounded in Khurma Tung area of Akkakhel. Two hideouts were destroyed while militants escaped unhurt as they had vacated the place before the aerial bombing.

In Jamrud, security forces arrested four suspected militants during a search operation in Ghundi area. Officials said that the search operation was conducted after they received information about the presence of suspected militants in the area. They, however, did not disclose the identity and affiliation of the arrested men.

In Swabi, a bomb blast damaged the hujra of an aid worker on Monday.

Police said that another bomb planted outside the hujra was defused. They said that two bombs were planted near the hujra in Bachai village in the limits of Kalu Khan police station.

Police said that the family of the aid worker was not present at home when the blast occurred. Soon after the incident, police reached the area and cordoned off the spot. During search, police found another bomb and defused it safely.In another incident, a power pylon was damaged when three of the four bombs, planted by unidentified persons in Kadi area near Zaida, went off. Police and bomb disposal squad defused the fourth bomb.
