ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government is committed to implementing its decision of granting most favoured nation (MFN) status to India, the foreign office said, rebuffing reports published by Pakistani media earlier on Thursday.

In a statement issued Thursday evening, the foreign office said that remarks by Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani had been reported out of context.

“The Foreign Secretary had actually said that certain stakeholders have some reservations on the MFN status,” clarified the statement.

The statement added that Pakistan will continue its efforts to establish normal trade relations with India.

Earlier, the foreign secretary had been quoted by news channels that Pakistan had some reservations over granting India the MFN status.

Jilani had added that commerce ministers of both neighbouring countries would hold talks on the reservations within the next few days.

He further said violation of ceasefire on the line of control after 10 years was unfortunate.

Jilani added that Pakistan had communicated to India that she was ready for an independent probe into the violation.

The foreign secretary moreover said that the director generals military operations of both countries had communicated on the matter.

He said both sides would have to exercise restraint in the wake of the ceasefire violation.
