LAHORE, Jan 9: The Punjab Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee-I has directed the tourism department to restore its transport wing to promote tourism in the province.

It has also been directed to forward a summary to provincial authorities for the provision of funds in this regard.

The directions came at a meeting of the PAC-I held here on Wednesday. Chaired by Chaudhry Zaheer, the meeting expressed its concern at 67 per cent cut in the revenue generation of the department and 30 per cent increase in its expenses while taking up audit paras regarding tourism.

“Tourism related agencies are earning profits across the world but here the situation is otherwise,” Zaheer said.

He observed that if the department did not have transport for taking people to tourist resorts, the tourism industry could not develop.
