KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) in Karachi on Friday sent Sikandar Jatoi, the father of the prime suspect in the Shahzeb murder case Shahrukh Jatoi, on physical remand until Jan 16.

Jatoi was arrested from outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad and transferred to Karachi late on Thursday night. He was presented at the ATC Karachi under strict security arrangements.

The police had requested the court for the physical remand of Jatoi in order to conduct further investigations, which the court accepted.

Sikandar Jatoi has been charged with helping Shahrukh Jatoi to flee the country after the murder of Shahzeb Khan.

Senior counsel Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, who represented Jatoi, informed the court that his client suffered from heart disease and therefore, must be allowed access to medical facilities during his remand. The court accepted the request and permitted Jatoi to access medical care while in police remand.

Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing until Jan 16.

On the other hand, a hearing of a petition filed by Sikandar Jatoi’s other son, Shehzad Jatoi took place at Sindh High Court (SHC). Shehzad had submitted a petition regarding the freezing of assets and harassment at the hands of police.

The police said that Shehzad Jatoi’s property and assets had not been frozen yet.

Twenty-year-old Shahzeb, son of Deputy Superintendent of Police Aurangzeb Khan, was gunned down on the night between Dec 24 and 25 when he was returning home, along with his sister, after attending a wedding at the Country Club Apartments in Karachi.

The SC had taken suo motu notice of Shahzeb Khan’s murder following protests from the civil society and coverage of the incident on the media.
