Teachers promoted

KOHAT, Jan 12: The departmental promotion committee on Saturday upgraded 583 teachers in grades 14 and 15.

The promotions were announced at a meeting of the promotion committee chaired by the executive district officer of primary schools of female, Farzana Sardar, and attended by members of the committee. The committee promoted 324 teachers in grade 14 and 259 in 15, off a list of 980 teachers it had received for consideration of promotions.

A participant of the meeting said promotions and providing facilities to female teachers was necessary so that they could pay their attention to students. She emphasised that giving due right to female teachers and removing their grievances was very essential because female teachers played a pivotal role in promoting education.—Correspondent

Graduate study centre

TIMERGARA, Jan 12:  A high level committee was constituted at the 6th meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) of the University of Malakand (UoM) on Saturday to prepare a plan for establishment of a graduate study centre at the university.

The meeting was held at the Chakdara campus with Vice-Chancellor Prof Johar Ali in the chair. The meeting also decided cases related to M.Phil/PhD coursework and research synopsis from departments of botany, biotechnology, pharmacy, chemistry and Islamic Studies, according to a press release.

The meeting was attended by members of the board, including Prof Rahmat Ali, dean of sciences Prof Mir Azam Khan, registrar Prof Rashid Ahmad, chairman department of chemistry Prof Iftikhar Ahmad, chairman department of physics Prof Ezzat Khan, assistant professor department of chemistry Dr Badshah Roome Daryab, assistant professor of Pashtu Ms Basharat Shah, principal University Girls’ College Chakdara and Qaisar Khan, deputy director admissions.—Correspondent

Robbery incidents in Kohat

KOHAT, Jan 12: The growing incidents of robberies over the last two weeks in the safest part of the city have created fear and panic among the residents.

A few days back robbers barged into the house of one Obaidullah in Mohallah Mian Badshah and took away Rs116,000 cash and 25 tola jewellery. The city police registered case but no headway has been made in the case.

Similarly, after a few days thieves entered the house of one Sohail in the quarters of old Zanana Hospital after breaking door of the house. They then opened the lock of a room and decamped with Rs800,000 and 25 tola jewellery.

The people while expressing grave concern over the growing incidents of robberies have asked the deputy inspector general of police to appoint a senior officer to investigate the case and recover the stolen items.—Correspondent

Car-lifters arrested

PESHAWAR, Jan 12: Police claimed on Saturday to have arrested two alleged car lifters and recovered two vehicles from them. An official of the Paharipura police station said that two accused Kamil Khan of Khyber Agency and Haroon of Mattani had been arrested from different areas of Peshawar.

He said that during checking two vehicles, including a car (LO-2382) and Suzuki carry (RI-332) had been recovered from their possession. He said that further investigation was underway to ascertain if they were members of an organised car lifting gang or not.—Bureau Report

Nadra’s mobile service

LANDI KOTAL, Jan 12: The National Database Registration Authority has started mobile service for issuing computerised national identity cards to women from Bara, following the directives of Khyber Agency political administration. Earlier, the Nadra office at the levies centre in Shah Kas had allocated only one day a week for women registration due to which women coming from far off localities faced hardships in acquiring CNIC.

Upon the request of various organisations and local elders, the administration directed the Nadra staff to establish mobile facility for women of Bara on round the week basis.

Meanwhile, water scarcity and excessive loadshedding have pushed the tribal women in Landi Kotal to pool money for running a generator to get water from tube-well.

Dawn learnt that a group of married women in Sheikmalkhel area formed a committee and started pooling Rs20 per married woman for purchasing fuel for generators to run a tube-well.—Correspondent

Mehsud tribesmen held

TANK, Jan 12: Political administration in a crackdown arrested about two dozen Mehsud tribesmen, sealed their businesses and impounded five vehicles for failing to recover kidnapped employees of Gomal Zam Dam.

Eight employees of the dam were kidnapped by suspected militants from Toormandi area when they were on way to their homes from Waziristan for Eid holidays in an official vehicle. Later, the administration recovered the vehicle but the employees were still untraced.

The political administration held several jirgas with elders of Mehsud tribe but they failed to recover the abducted persons. The Mehsud elders are of the view that they are facing difficulties in holding negotiations with militants as they (militants) kept changing their locations in fear of drone attacks. The administration officials said 23 tribesmen had been arrested in the crackdown started on Friday, and had been sent to central jail Dera Ismail Khan.—Correspondent

Attack condemned

PESHAWAR, Jan 12: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has condemned the remote controlled bomb attack on former minister Bashir Khan Umerzai, his son and associates in Charsadda district on Saturday.

Expressing his deep sympathies with Bashir Khan and family members, the governor said that the elements involved in the heinous crime would no longer remain at large and the law enforcement agencies will succeed in bringing them to court of law shortly.  He also wished early recovery of the injured persons.—Bureau Report
