ISLAMABAD: During Monday’s hearing of a petition on the law and order situation and human rights violations in Balochistan, the Supreme Court summoned the notification dismissing the provincial government and imposing governor rule in the southwestern province, DawnNews reported.

The apex court was hearing the petition filed by the Balochistan Bar Association on the law and order situation in the province.

Advocate-General Balochistan Amanullah Kinrani told the bench he had not received the relevant notification so far.

Later on Sunday night, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had announced in front of a gathering of representatives of the Hazara Shia community that the provincial government was being dismissed forthwith and governor rule was being imposed in the whole of Balochistan.

The announcement was welcomed by thousands of Hazara Shias who had been staging a sit-in in freezing cold on Alamdar Road for the last three days along with the bodies of dozens of people killed in bombings on Thursday.
