KARACHI: Pakistan Army ended their Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) campaign with a goalless draw against Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to finish in fourth place while National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) claimed sixth place.

A resolute defensive performance, led by centre-back Akhtar Mamol, saw KPT frustrate Army for long periods here at the KPT Football Stadium in the last fixture for both teams.

The draw meant Army ended up with 58 points, four behind second-placed Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and third-placed Muslim FC. KPT ended the season with 32 points and in 13th place in the 16-team league.

NBP, who began the season in promising note as they were amongst the early pace-setters, settled for a sixth-place finish on 44 points after being awarded a walkover against Afghan FC, who failed to turn up for their match at the Korangi Baloch Stadium. NBP finished nine points behind fifth-placed Pakistan Air Force (PAF) while Afghan FC ended the season in ninth place with 35 points.

Champions Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) have 70 points ahead of their last fixture against Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Tuesday which will bring down the curtains on the ninth edition of Pakistan’s top-tier football competition.

Tuesday’s fixture: PIA v KRL (KPT Football Stadium, Karachi).
