QUETTA: The provincial assembly in Balochistan on Tuesday adopted three separate resolutions including one against recently imposed governor’s rule in the province, DawnNews reported.

The assembly session started after a delay of three hours amid personnel of Frontier Constabulary (FC) surrounding the building.

The FC contingent later lifted the siege upon assurances given by Governor Zulfiqar Magsi.

The two other resolutions passed were against the Bacha Khan Chowk blast and Alamdar Road incident in Quetta, where scores of civilians were brutally killed.

The resolution against governor’s rule was tabled by independent MPA Shah Nawaz Marri and was adopted with clear majority.

Marri said the act by the federal government was a direct assault on democracy itself.

He said governor’s rule was imposed after “just a couple blasts in Quetta,” whereas it was not forced when Abbottabad was raided by US Seals to kill Osama bin Laden and when the GHQ and Kamra Air Base came under attack from militants.

The PPP government late on Sunday night had yielded to protests that had enveloped the entire country over the weekend. Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf announced, in front of a gathering of representatives of the Hazara Shia community, that the provincial government was being dismissed forthwith and governor’s rule was being imposed in Balochistan.

His announcement was welcomed by thousands of Hazara Shias who had been staging a sit-in in freezing cold on Alamdar Road for the last three days along with the bodies of dozens of people killed in bombings on Thursday.
