LAHORE, Jan 15: Various civil society organisations on Tuesday held a demonstration in favour of democracy at Faisal Square on The Mall, while the Punjab PPP has decided not to protest against the Supreme Court’s order to arrest Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

Holding placards, the participants chanted slogans in favour of democracy. They said the country achieved democracy after sacrifices of millions of political workers, media and civil society.

“We shall not allow anybody to derail democracy,” Civil Society Network President Abdullah Malik said while addressing the participants. He said the demands of Dr Tahirul Qadri were unconstitutional.

“It is better for him to participate in the coming elections with these demands as an agenda of his party,” he suggested.
