KARACHI: Mohammad Adil has had a stunning PPFL season in which he has made his mark as the most promising left-footed player in the country.

In his best form, the stocky KRL left-winger runs with the ball in stark similarity to how Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos used to make surging runs to threaten opposing defences. And this season, he’s done exactly that — creating and scoring goals.

“My favourite players are Roberto Carlos and Carlos Tevez,” Adil told Dawn on Tuesday. “And I’m proud to play for Pakistan’s ‘Real Madrid’. Opponent teams compare us to Real and Barca as we score a lot of goals.”

But for the Bahawalpur-born player, his ultimate aim is to compete at a higher level, if not Real or Barca.

“I had an offer from a Palestinian club but nothing materialised in the end and now I’m hoping I get more offers from abroad,” Adil said.

For that to happen, though, Adil would have to perform well at a continental level. And the AFC President’s Cup presents him with the ultimate opportunity to do exactly that.

“Once you play in a continental event, you have a greater chance of being noticed,” Adil said. “And if we come back with the trophy, it would give us the platform to launch our careers forward.”—Sports Reporter
