ISLAMABAD: Former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday declared the long march led by Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri a success, DawnNews reported.

“I have supported them from the beginning,” said the former president.

Qadri, who played a role in backing a military coup in 1999, has threatened to remain camped out near the federal parliament with thousands of supporters until his demands for the resignation of the government are met.

The fiery orator returned home from Canada less than a month ago to lead a call for electoral reforms to bar “corrupt politicians” from office, which has made him an instant hit among several Pakistanis disillusioned with the state.

Musharraf claimed that had he been in Kayani’s position some change or the other would have taken place in the country by now.

Moreover, Musharraf criticised the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) saying Nawaz Sharif’s party also did not have the ability to resolve the country’s issues.

COMMENTS

  1. its first time in Pakistan history, we’ve ended our march peacefully, so its time to impalement new improvements on our election system.

  2. Sir, thank you for selling your country for scraps and pennies. I am sure the families of all the drone victims would personally like to thank you.

  3. A great leader. Too good for Pakistan.

  4. demands of qadri sb is realy good for the nation of pakistan

  5. Qadri’s long march is indeed a success, but still the implementation of the four chartered points of Qadri sir is not assured or discussed by the government. I was expecting Imran Khan to join the long march, but he joined the united political parties, though in fact agreeing with the Qadri’s point and asking for the safety of long march. I think Qadri sir should stop this long march because it’s just humiliating his and the nation’s dignity in front of the criminals. He should speak about his points, which reveal the rights of the nation today, as being an individual manifest and as a citizen of Pakistan. The government we are having today should be removed with a way of moderation. I totally agree with all Qadri’s statements but I think the case should be handled with moderation, though the protestors are hundred and one percent peaceful people but we don’t know anything about our “dear” government Heads’ master plans.

  6. they question the integrity of Pakistanis who want a change and i question there integrity.

Dawn is trying to steer minds and conversations of Pakistanis away from the challenges they face towards trivial issues. Their attempts to sow discord amongst the people of Pakistan are crystal clear.

Dawn I ask you on whose behest are you doing this?

  7. In Pakistan it is hypocracy in the name of so called democracy. Musharraf cleaned up the filth created by the musical chair by BB and Gagga. Now he is the only tried honst and clean hand man, who recovered the lost prestige of Pakistan earlier and can do it again. Imran Khan really bitrayed the cause at a very critical time. I think we should not bank on him in future, he has proved to be unreliable, untrust worthy and treaturous. May Allah help Qadri Sahib.

  8. Pervez Musharraf was 100 times better leader then these current lot.

  9. Musharraf a true nationalist deserves the credit of leading the country towards prosperity with strong economy. without corruption. his return to the power would be betterment of the country.

  10. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s long march is indeed a success but we still cannot be sure if he’d be successful in implementing his chartered points. I was expecting Imran Khan to join but he didn’t oppose Qadri’s points in fact he joined the points of the political parties. I think Qadri should stop the protest for his own dignity and the nation’s dignity and ask the government for his points in an individual manifest as a citizen. Government like that we are having today should be removed but in a moderate way.

  11. Only ALLAH can save this country…. so pray for Pakistan

  12. Stay where you are and shame on you.

  13. Musharraf is a good leader and there is no doubt that he is a hero of Pakistan. except Lal Masjid incident his regime was better and example of good governance.

  14. Musharraf was a true statesman, an excellent representative and the best ruler Pakistan had in a long time.

  15. Mr. Musharraf is only the person who can save Pakistan, please come back and lead the nation.

  16. People argue that qadri has not come on his own and he is here on some one’s else agenda and blah blah.. Well I dont really care that whose agenda is this, as long as, it coincides with the agenda of the suffering lot of pakistan. And that is: ousting the current-so called- democtratic despensation and bringing some relief to the public through some alternative setup. If this is the agenda of America or even Israel, I have no problem to give it my backing.

  17. I see women on the street with Battons, I see schools closed and roads blocked. Qadri (a bearded person) is challenging the writ of the Government and it’s happening in holiest of the places in Pakistan i.e, Islamabad. Last time it happened and under Musharraf, government launched a bloody operation and killed everyone (Remember: Lal Masjid, they were challenging status quo and trying to stop the spread of moral evil)…………..and this time he supports them and almost imploring Army Chief to “Do Something”. What am I missing?

    • What options are left for the down trodden people of Pakistan if the corrupt
leaders dont change how they run the country. Are the people supposed to
suffer silently, without making their voices heard?
I have seen the coverage of the long march on many national and
international news channels and did not see any women with battons nor any
violence. The people of Pakistan are ready to stand up for their country and
their rights in the face of tyranny. I salute the men, women and children of
Pakistan who are braving the bitter Islamabad cold and are unpreturbed by
anything. Long Live Pakistan, Long Live the People of Pakistan

  18. Thats what we could expect from a power hunger opportunist like Musharaf exploiting a sensitive situation. Army should revise its selection criteria and psychological assessment tools to prevent such individuals from entering into its sacred folds.

  19. Musharaf Sahab plz come back to pakistan and save our country.

    • we owe so much to perverz mushrraff in terms of miseries, fanning of separatism in Baluchistan, ruins and radicalization of the country. yes he should come back and complete the mission.
ppl want him back because the present government has totally disappointed the people that makes Musharraf look like a hero; still we need to continue the process of democracy, general elections after general elections so all bad guys are filtered out and we have true spirit of democracy in the country.

    • These corrupt leaders won’t let him come back.

  20. Off course Musharraf declares Qadri’s long march a success after all once he was his mentor.
