LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday set aside the appointment of Farooq Awan as chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

A single bench comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the order on petitions challenging the appointment of PTA Chairman Farooq Awan.

The petitions were filed by Khawaja Saad Saleem and Barrister Sardar Muhammad Ali submitting that the government had not followed the procedure to appoint the chairman.

They said the vacant post was never advertised in the media nor was any other member interviewed for it. The petitioners pleaded to the court to declare the appointment null and void and order the government to make a fresh appointment.

The court after hearing arguments of both parties set aside the appointment of Farooq Awan as PTA chairman.
