ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police lodged a First Information Report (FIR) on Wednesday against Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, DawnNews reported.

The FIR was registered at the federal capital’s Kohsar police station.

Qadri was delivering an address as his supporters continued their sit-in for the second day at D-Chowk near Parliament House in Islamabad and reiterated his demands.

His demands entail electoral reforms in accordance with the law and the Constitution along with the resignation of Chief Election Commisioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim.

He also demanded for the care taker setup to be installed without the consensus of only two political parties, namely the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N)

During his address today, the TMQ chief said the long march was the harbinger of change.

He further said that the intentions of those trying to link the Supreme Court’s orders with the sit-in staged near Parliament House were malafide. Qadri added that “such people” should be ashamed of themselves.

Qadri said he considered Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan as a fellow seeker of change who was not tainted by corruption. The TMQ chief invited Khan to join the sit-in.

Referring to the Supreme Court’s order for the arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the Rental Power Plants (RPP) case, he said that despite the  court’s clear instructions to arrest the premier,  some federal ministers were denying that the orders were meant for the prime minister.
