KARACHI, Jan 18: A cold spell gripped parts of the province with Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad districts turning out to be the coldest places where the mercury dropped to four degrees centigrade on Friday, said a Met official.

He added that Shaheed Benazirabad district was likely to remain the coldest place in Sindh on Saturday too when the mercury was expected to remain between three and six degrees centigrade.

Only two places — Sukkur and Jacobabad — in the province received showers on Friday where three millimetres and two millimetres of rainfall, respectively, was recorded, the official said while responding to Dawn queries.

The weatherman said the minimum temperature in Karachi recorded on Friday was nine degrees centigrade, while Hyderabad shivered at five degrees centigrade.

Similarly, the minimum temperature in Sukkur remained seven degrees centigrade, Jacobabad eight degrees centigrade and Badin 11 degrees centigrade, he added.

He said that the maximum temperature recorded in Karachi on Friday was 24 degrees centigrade. Humidity was 16 per cent.

Forecast

According to the Met official, weather on Saturday is expected to remain cold and dry and the minimum temperature is likely to range between 13 and 15 degrees centigrade in Karachi though Hyderabad will be a bit colder than Karachi with the minimum temperature expected between 10 and 12 degrees centigrade.

The official forecast that minimum temperature would range between nine and 11 degrees centigrade in Jacobabad, seven and nine degrees centigrade in Larkana, five and seven degrees centigrade in Sukkur, and between eight and 10 degrees centigrade in Thatta.
