LAHORE: A fire broke out in a plaza on Abbot road near Lahore's Lakshmi chowk in the early hours of Sunday killing six people including a child,  whereas officials reported rescuing 43 victims who were trapped in the fire, DawnNews reported.

A fire erupted in a plaza in Lahore's Lakshmi chowk area which spread quickly to four adjacent buildings.

Rescue and fire teams rushed to the site of the incident and managed to control the fire after several hours of hectic effort, during which rescue teams managed to help 43 trapped persons escape the buildings.

Six persons including a child were killed in the fire.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment where the condition of four victims was reported as critical.

Rescue officials claimed that the fire was caused by a short-circuit.
