ISLAMABAD, Jan 19: A PPP legislator from Narowal, on Saturday, was booked by Secretariat police on directions of a lower court for manhandling and threatening a joint secretary of ministry of housing and works.  

Earlier, on January 15, additional district and session judge west Raja Khurram Ali Khan had directed the Secretariat police station to register a case against the MNA for manhandling a joint secretary of ministry of housing and works.

However, due to the engagement of the police in the Tehrik Minhajul Quran (TMQ) long march and sit-in, the police took three days to register the case.

The police said that Joint Secretary Sarwar Awan said in his complaint that on January 7, the MNA – Mohammad Tariq Anees – along with his gunman came to his office and demanded the approval of Rs100million for development schemes in his constituency, NA 116, under the prime minister development scheme programme.

However, Mr Awan expressed his inability as he had no funds for the release of the scheme.

As a result, the MNA got annoyed and started beating him in his office and threatened with dire consequences, said police officials.

Later Awan approached the Secretariat police to get a case register against the MNA and in this regard lodged a complaint. However, the police did not register a case.

Therefore, Awan approached the district and session court and got directions for the police to register the case.

Later the Secretariat police registered a case on charges of PPCs 337-A (1), 337-F (1), 337-F (5), 342, 353 and 186.

Despite several attempts the MNA was not available for comments, as both his mobile phones were switched off.
