LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is not part of the Pakistan cricket team, which is embarking on a challenging tour of South Africa in the wee hours of Sunday to play three Tests, two T20 and five One-day International matches.

Interestingly, the PCB chairman was quoted in the media when the national team was to tour India last month that Inzamam would not go to India but he would be hired as batting consultant for the next tour of South Africa.

“I am not in contact with the PCB since the tour of India and I am not a part of the team management,” said Inzamam.
He had given some batting tips to Pakistan batsmen before the Indian tour.

Meanwhile, manager of the Pakistan team Naveed Akram Cheema said though there were three changes made in the team management, Inzamam was not assigned the duty.

Naveed said the team would leave for Dubai on Sunday morning and from there it will take a direct flight for South Africa.

He said the team was well prepared and the players would hopefully give top performance against the Proteas.

“Yes, South Africa is the top side in test rankings and they will also be enjoying home conditions. They are familiar with their pitches but our players are also in form as they did well against formidable sides like England, India and Sri Lanka,” he said.

Naveed claimed that the cricketers were getting maturity as they were looking more responsible in maintaining the discipline.

“We have adopted strict disciplinary measures which are taken positively by the players,” said Naveed.—Sports Reporter

  1. welll i remember Tony Greig said once that he has not seen a more technically sound batsman than Inzamam Ul Haq. and tht too in the time when Ponting Lara and Tendulkar used to play. no batsmen out of three i mentioned can play so effortlessly than Inzi can.. though he sufferend mostly due to his laziness but it is beyond doubt that he can teach good. ha has good command over men and is a leader than a follower. PCB shoud recruit him as a advisor. he always had a positive influence over the team.. looking forward to see him in the management soon!

  2. Inzamam is not exactly a tactician which he acknowledged by suggesting before the trip to India that he would not be teaching technique as a consultant. I am not sure if that was the result of his role at the time? Plus, Inzamam’s other influence is shall we say a cause of distraction.

He comes across as a good man until he crosses that line into stuff that should be personal and private in my opinion!

    • wellll the definition of crossing the line mist be explained. i dont see in antway that he has crossed the line.. he had been one of the best captains of Palistan team.. ur comment is not welcomed. do visit timesofindia and post sumthing which concerns u .. adios!!!

      • may be he is referring to Inzi leading prayers in the camp and trying to impart values of Islam amongst players…. I think work and worship should go together and no one should have any qualms about it……as a player he has been most underrated … lara and tendulkar hogging all the lime light…

  3. It is better for Pakistani cricket to keep him as far away from boys as possible as he would train them to be a good Muslims than a good batsmen.

  4. good move by PCB especially when Pakistan side could not chase 166 runs in the last ODI …..

  5. It will indeed be a tough series for the ‘green-shirts’ since beating South Africa in their homeland will be pretty difficult. Nevertheless, I wish Misbah-ul-Haq and party the best of luck in pursuit of victory against Proteas. The fragility of the current Pakistani cricket team lies in their batting line-up as well as in the fielding department of the game. However, with hard work, faith in themselves, dedication, discipline and mental toughness, they can overcome these shortcomings and re-write the pages of test cricket in their favor as they did against England earlier. Let’s hope that in the end, the noble game of cricket should emerge as victorious.

    • Surely it will be tough serious for green shirts, when there will be green top wicket and bouncing wicket very hard to play there Pak team can win only by bowling not batting let see our prayer are with pak team
