LAHORE, Jan 19: The Lahore Development Authority on Saturday issued show-cause notices to six employees for their alleged involvement in various fraudulent activities.

The action was taken after senior officials found the workers guilty of preparing forged documents about the transfer of around 11 plots in Gujjarpura (China Scheme) Housing Scheme, according to an LDA spokesman.

The employees who were issued notices included Muhammad Anwar (staff officer), Azmat Ali, Sharif Shahid and Muhammad Arif Raza (junior clerks), Jamil Peerzada (accounts clerk) and Rana Muhammad Hanif (patwari).

The spokesman said the accused officials had been proceeded against under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act, 2006.

They had been directed to submit their reply to the competent authority within seven days of receipt of the notices, failing which it would be presumed they had nothing in their defence.

SQUASH: The City District Government of Lahore in collaboration with the Punjab Bank will organise the Lahore Open National Squash Championship at the Punjab Squash Complex from Jan 23 to 26.

“National and international players from all provinces are scheduled to participate in this tournament,” the DCO told reporters. He said the squash gala had been organised under the aegis of the District Squash Federation.

“By organising such activities, we may have new talent that could further build capacity of junior players,” he added.

He said cash prizes would be given to the winners and runners-up.

FINED: Price control magistrates inspected as many as 385 shops and imposed fine worth Rs61,000 on 97 vendors for overcharging and hoarding.

The officials also got FIRs registered against four shopkeepers.
