KARACHI, Jan 20: Three favourites and an equal number of outsiders evenly shared a six-race card as rider M. Manzoor galloped home a brace of winners in the Gymkhana race meeting which took place after a fortnight at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Boss, an unknown pedigree bay colt, edged co-favourite colt Guru Manter by head in a neck-and-neck finish to land the opener and make it two victories on trot.

Spirit and Star To Win completed the board in same order as the field was reduced to 15 horses following withdrawal of debutant Subah-Ba-Khair. Shahmir, the rider of Liza Love, was suspended for a month for ‘unsatisfactory riding’.

Favourite bay horse Thief Of Baghdad overcame complacency while opening New Year’s account imposing to a facile six-length victory over Capri to pick up spoils in the next race.

Bay colt Amazing Power made amends as he gets the better of co-favourite La Maafi by three-quarter-of-a-length to win the third race. He was given a perfect ride by M. Manzoor who later guided long shot filly Black Orchid to a fluent five lengths victory over odds-on-favourite colt Gold Finger in the fifth race for a double.

Rider Ashiq Ali piloted outsider Black Cobra home defeating mare Sugar Baby by two and quarter-of-a-length as favourite filly Black Lady finished off the frame.

In a start-to-finish bid, bay horse Shan-e-Sindh galloped to a staggering eight-length victory over mare Bankable to dominate the sixth race which was also days feature event.

Champion jockey Mohammad Essa fell from his mount Punter’s Dream at the starting gate which was tipped as favourite for the race.

Earlier re-betting was ordered following the eleventh hour withdrawal of Janab Sahab.
