THE most important reform that the various political parties should ask for is a proportional electoral system. This would ensure that the vote of each citizen would carry weight and would help his or her political party.

Each party should get seats proportionate to the votes it fetches in the election. There could be variations of the system but in no way should it be a constituency-based system.

There should be a pre-screening process for candidates. Carried over a couple of elections, this system would weed out corrupt politicians, end feudal mindset, would not be captive to the winning horses and would be to the benefit of political parties in the long run and thus to the nation.
