If it’s renaissance, it is renaissance with a touch of the more modern Georgio De Chirico. It has a certain clarity. The expressions and of the wives can be interpreted and are open to interpretation. The portrait of some woman’s daughter on the wall is an icon, but there is an absence of joy in all of their faces. A dissatisfaction with their lives is the artist’s message. There is truth in art.
