LAHORE, Jan 22: Security arrangements at railway stations and in trains have been intensified ahead of the upcoming Eid-i-Milad.

Railways Police Inspector General Syed Ibne Husain on Tuesday directed his team to remain vigilant on all passengers. All entry and exit points to Railways installations should be properly manned and passengers arriving at railway stations and their luggage should be checked with metal detectors.

Commandos should be deployed at every major railway station and the number of plainclothesmen in a moving train be enhanced, he added.

Officials said maximum Railways Police staff had been deputed at key points and installations besides nearby mosques, imambargahs and shrines. Railways policemen were also regularly patrolling within their jurisdiction.

Joint patrol with Railways officials was being undertaken. Pilot engines were being run ahead of main trains in sensitive areas to avert any untoward incident. Railways Police would regularly check patrolling by their men and any negligence in this regard would be reported to the general manager (operations) as well as divisional superintendents concerned.

Meetings with the district police had been held to ensure police patrolling along the track outside the outer signals. All rakes were being properly swept at the washing lines before dispatching to railway stations.
