PESHAWAR, Jan 24: Polio cases will increase in North Waziristan Agency if officials concerned don’t pay immediate attention to it as government hasn’t conducted anti-polio campaign in the region since June 2012, says chief organiser of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf for Fata Dr Bashir Ahmad Khan.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that government stopped anti-polio campaigns in the agency owing to Talibanisation and deprived tribal people of obtaining necessary documents including domicile, passport and national identity cards. He said that the problems of tribal people should be resolved otherwise they would be forced to protest the responsibility would rest with the government.

The PTI leader said that tribal people did not know as to why they were killed in shelling and military operations.

“Five innocent tribesmen were hit when a helicopter gunship fired at a house. Three girls received injuries and all of them died owing to non-availability of medical care,” he claimed.

Flanked by Malik Kamran Khan, Shaukatullah Khan, Akhtar Ali and Tauseef, Dr Bashir said that media didn’t give proper coverage to the issues of tribesmen. —Bureau Report
