LAHORE, Jan 24: The Punjab government approved on Thursday nine development schemes of various sectors of the economy.

The Punjab Irrigation System Improvement Project (PISIP) PK-P59 (2nd revised), with an estimated cost of Rs12,007.240 million, was approved in the 29th meeting of Provincial Development Working Party of 2012-13 financial year.

Presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Javaid Aslam, the meeting also approved eight other development schemes of various sectors worth Rs3,551.129 million.

The approved schemes included: Construction of sewerage scheme at Renala City in Okara district at the cost of Rs314.972 million; Punjab Water and Sanitation Academy, Lahore (revised) at the cost of Rs421.885 million; Geophysical Survey for Exploration of Metallic Minerals in the Pre-Cambrian Shield Rocks in Punjab (PC-II) at the cost of Rs65.850 million, Completion of balance work of Package-A Part-A (Rehabilitating Lower Chenab Canal System) (Main Line Upper RD 0+000 to 69+000) in Gujranwala district at the cost of Rs74.957 million.

Approval was also granted for the construction of the Punjab Judicial Academy in Lahore at the cost of Rs743.758 million; Installation of weigh bridge at Lahore Ring Road at the cost of Rs264.872 million; Widening and improvement of road from link Chiniot-Jhang Road (Adda Chamra Mor) to Pull Chimbranwali, (length 27.50km) in Jhang district at the cost of Rs238.880 million and widening and improvement of Bahawalnagar-Haroonabad Road (length 53km) in Bahawalnagar district (2nd revised) at the cost of Rs1,425.955 million.
