EAST LONDON: The touring Pakistan suffered a collapse after a century opening partnership on the opening day of their four-day match against a South African Invitation XI at Buffalo Park on Friday.

The tourists were 178 for six at the close on a day shortened by rain and bad light.

Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed put on 105 for the first wicket but the Pakistanis then lost six wickets for the addition of 40 runs. Wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed and fast bowler Umar Gul added an unbeaten 33 for the seventh wicket.

Hafeez made 55 off 95 deliveries with ten fours before he was dismissed by opening bowler Kyle Abbott. But the batsmen who followed were unable to take advantage of the good start in their only warm-up match before three Test matches against South Africa.

Jamshed saw Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Asad Shafiq dismissed cheaply before he fell to off-spinner Simon Harmer to be sixth man out for 68, compiled off 158 balls with eight fours.

COMMENTS

  1. The way Pakistan has batted in last three matches I would say that one Test will end up with pakistan getting an inning defeat. Except for two batsman who are consistently scoring the rest of the batsman are consistently making low scores

  2. Please retire Younus & Misbah, although excellant players in thier prime but it is time for them to move on.

  3. Azhar and Asad should be sent back to Pakistan and instead let Malik and Afridi be part of the squad

  4. If this is how Pakistan will play against the 2nd eleven, what will they do against the 1st? Azher Ali seems to be out of form and it does not look like Younis, Misbah and Asad will be able to cope with the pace and bounce. Lets hope our openers and our bowlers can keep us in the game at least.

  5. as exppected pakistani batsmen are doing thier regular job. morning shows the day. pccb is the main culprit for the show. the team is not getting much needed match practice before the first test match. the africans condition is different from pakistans condition. why pccb keep only one practice game before the test match. and the pakistani batsmen still need to learn basick technique to cop with the fast and spin bowling.

  6. Already Batting looks pathetic!! We need Batting coach Mr. Zaka

  7. Yeh whitewash se pahle ki nishani aur dastak hai aage aage deikho hota hai kya :(
