British high street style is taking over the global fashion markets at a very fast pace. Unfortunately, the trend went largely unnoticed by Pakistani designers until recently. “It’s never too late to give it a start,” says Pakistan-born stylist Muneer Mohammed who is a British national and is currently visiting Karachi. He presented and developed the idea of having a fashion feature based on the theme of UK high street fashion for men for Images on Sunday.

Says Muneer, “high street style is all about playing with colours and fabric while keeping clothes affordable. It’s the kind of fashion which can be freely seen on the streets of London. The clothes seen here are by Topman, River Island, Republic, Calvin Klein and Primark.

“The positive aspect of these brands is firstly that they are affordable and secondly that they keep up with upcoming fashion trends. High street fashion comprises individual pieces of clothing which can be worn singularly or together with other pieces,” he adds.

The theme for this particular shoot is to present a fresh perspective for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2013 season. Style inspired by grunge with graphic print and matching textures, a combination of denim with chinos of different colours with a striped or printed T-shirt are among the many fashion themes presented here.

When asked about the essence of UK high street fashion, Muneer says, “It’s about having fun, experimenting with colours and changing one’s style sense by wearing something out of the blue and feeling great about it.” Sounds like something we can certainly use on the streets of Pakistan. — Sheharyar Shaukat
