KARACHI: Pakistan have added pace bowlers Tanvir Ahmed and Rahat Ali to their side in South Africa before the first Test starting on February 1, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Sunday.
A PCB spokesman said the decision followed a request from the touring team’s management.
“They have taken this decision after considering the conditions and duration of the tour in South Africa,” the spokesman said. “Both players will arrive before the first Test.”
The team already includes pace bowlers Umar Gul, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan and uncapped Ehsan Adil.
Tanvir, 34, who has played four Tests, made his last appearance in a one-day match against Ireland last year.
Left-armer Rahat has played just one one-day international against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will play three Tests, two Twenty20s and five one-day internationals on the tour. A squad for the limited overs matches will be announced next month.

Australian and South African wickets are bouncy and fast. Our wickets not being of that standard put our batsmen at a disadvantage. With six fast bowlers in the touring side, they will have to prepare to concede many runs. Dropping Sohail Tanvir is not a good move and M. Irfan’s height will not enable him to bowl his best. Anyway, the wicket in Newlands, Cape Town has proven to be a disaster for Pakistan many a times. Best of luck to both the teams and Salams
Didn’t we have any older fast bowler. Tanvir Ahmed is already 34. Fast bowlers retire around this age.
34 year old and now getting chance? PCB wake up and give a chance to the new blood who can play next 10 to 12 years.
While the team was busy playing, safarash was at work and picked two more for the trip. Enjoy guys
we will once again look funny, confused, lost.usman
Wahab Riaz, Anwar Ali?
Why pick them for India tour, do not play and then drop from the following tour?
That is all Pakistan has….a 34 year old and the other we donot know!….No Tear away youngster???? What about Zia ul Huq????
No Wahab Riaz? why do they keep dropping him?
Wahab Riaz is fixer, they left all the fixers behind… That’s why no Akmals.
Thats an interesting comment. Can you please share some more details … This is a first for me

Good comment, there is massive amount of doubt around two of the Akmals (Kamran and Umar) and Wahab Riaz. Anyone with even some doubth should NEVER be selected. As for Tanvir Ahmed, he played good cricket in his four test matches. PCB gave him a rough treatment. Just like Fawad Alam (who was dropped for good one test after scoring 160 against Sri Lanka) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (who was dropped from the test team after only one test in Hobart where he did not commit any mistakes behind the stumps). But I agree he is on the wrong side of 30′s. i dont know why Misbah and co did not try young and new faces like Anwar Ali and others in the third dead rubber ODI against India. Our think tank does not really think much i guess.
