It's good that the Tahir ul Qadri episode happened in Pakistan, democracy matured a little more and possibly made deeper inroads into the psyche of people, even though the actual event appeared to be a lot of bluster. Democracy is a very messy way of governance but it is one method which gives voices to the ordinary citizen despite many feeling short changed by the powerful and corrupt.

In a Democratic setup in general but Parlimentry democracy in particular , Opposition's main task is to make the Government Work for the welfare and upgrading of the people ( so as to speak if one believes that part of the democractic slogan ! ) and if it fails to deliver on that primary task , then to take the Govt to tasks and dressing down the line until they conform to the basic tenants of being there ! ....... What happens if the opposition becomes hand in gloves with the Govt to save their own skins .... is truly the factual presentation on the display since Feb 2008 , in Pakistan , So pressure point or breaking point , as long as it does not hurt their skins to the core , there is no point at all in our Pakistani situation . The main aim of this Govt is to stick to the chair for 5 years and the 2nd most important aim of the Govt is by what hook or crook they can have on their disposal , to get elected once again so that THE BOSS can reside in the secured , walled bunker of the Presidency for another 5 years , after Qadri's drama , we are seeing PML-N leavers to join PPP , to bring the so called pressure point on the Sharifs nothing else tangible for the masses , they are upto now to start not scratching each others backs , but hell bent upon moulding each other to have the big piece of the next election pie , as for the people , they are and have never been in the schemes of these so called national leaders nor they are or were in the schemes of establishment's , for any wellfare or well being thrown at them even as crumbs

It is good for the military, good for the country, and good for everyone if Pakistani electorate is aware of their rights, their responsibilities, and their power. I hope military does not have to intervene ever again to make politicians perform better. This job is better done by the electorate and is their responsibility. But electorate also needs fair, vibrant media and other institutions performing their duties properly. When we see present media (and to some extent present higher judiciary), they seem to want to be the kingmakers. This not only exceeds their due role but sets a bad precedent. I have said this before in my past comments and I repeat: Democracy and rule of Constitution is a right of Pakistani people and is not to be considered a 'project'. In fact, given the complex and ever-evolving regional and global scenario, a competent and time-honed civilian leadership is extremely important. What needs to be phased out however is the concept of 1970s populist politics (ZAB style) and regional politics. It needs to be replaced by a mature, more-like-USA concept of two mainstream parties depending on swing voters who vote based more on performance and requirements than permanent associations. The party that can turn the swing votes in their favor should form the government.
