LAHORE, Jan 27: Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has formally undertaken the process of consulting other opposition parties for forging consensus on a caretaker set-up.

Sources said the parties, including Jamaat-i-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, had been asked to send two names each for the posts of caretaker prime minister and chief ministers in a couple of days.

Jamaat-i-Islami secretary general Liaquat Baloch confirmed that the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader had called him on Sunday and sought the names.

“Chaudhry Nisar also assured me that after receiving preferences (for the posts) from all (opposition) parties, a second round of consultations would be held for reaching agreement on the names which would be forwarded to the government,” he told Dawn.

He said Chaudhry Nisar had clarified that he had not suggested any name for the caretaker prime minister and that the media reports in this regard were wrong.

Mr Baloch said his party and the PML-N had the same concern about the law and order situation in Karachi and Balochistan which was being created to delay the general election.

Mr Baloch accused the media of creating confusion about a sit-in his party was planning to hold outside the parliament building, along with the PML-N and other opposition parties.

He said a date and details of the sit-in plan were yet to be finalised.
