Passport & Pakistani consulate

I APPLIED for a new passport at the Pakistani consulate in Toronto, Canada. I was informed an urgent passport is delivered within 20 days at an extra charge.

I paid for one and now after 22 days of waiting, I am shocked to learn that the consulate takes no responsibility for delivering the urgent passport within the 20 days that it commits to do.

These are just false commitments made by the Pakistani consulate. It has no control over the preparation of new passports. The extra charge for an urgent passport is outright malpractice, considering the commitment is not honoured.

My flight is booked for Feb 6 and I cannot apply for a visa for Dubai without my passport.

What am I supposed to do? What if I miss my flight because of the delay in receiving my passport? Is the consulate answerable to anyone?

  1. You sound like a physician with a sense of entitlement.

  2. Procrastination comes with a price. Stop blaming others and start taking responsibility. If you say you were shocked, you are too naive. You probably meant that you are disappointed. Enjoy your trip, but stop slandering your own country and your own people.

  3. Your experience was dealing with government officials at the Pakistani consulate. Such Pakistanis believe that they are not answerable to anyone. “Service” is a dirty word. Giving misguidance to people is a sport they enjoy the most. They are supposed to be representing the govt. Looking at the shenanigans of our current govt., that’s probably true.

My recent experience in Pakistan also enlightend me on how ordinary Pakistanis are. It’s no different. Nobody ever gave me correct info. I walked into a DVD store wanting to buy an old movie because they are so cheap. The man behind the counter told me “No problem”, He didn’t have it but he can get it the next day. Great, I thought. I went back the next day. Guess what? He had ordered it and “it was on it’s way”. No problem. I stayed in Pakistan for a month and I must have visited the store atleast 7 or 8 times. Same answer. Finally it was time for me to return to Canada. The DVD never arrived. Once I got home, I was at a Wallmart looking through a pile of DVD’s in the $5 basket. There it was.

All I can say in conclusion is that I cannot trust any Pakistani for their word. That’s sad.

  4. Most of the Pakistanis carry dual passports to save such problems and hazzles.I recommend you to use your Canadian passport and get Pakistani visitor visa.

  6. I have worked in the consulate thats in Chicago and we have always returned back the urgent passports within 2-3 days….im surprised that the Consulate in Toronto gives urgent passports in 20 days

  7. Have you considered becoming a Canadian citizen?

  8. I Canada, Welcome to Pakistan. So what is new? I have been to the consulate in Toronto few times and I can very well imagine your ordeal. Once I caught one of the guys at Passport counter talking to his family in the washroom; asking how everybody was doing. All this while there were scores of people waiting for their turn inside the consulate.

  9. why don’t you surrender Pak Passport?

  10. I gather they have a backlog of 16,000-20,000 passports. On the plus side the nadra cards are delivered to door in 2 weeks. Seems like the nadra office/ high commission is doing something right here in uk.

  11. What is that phrase used by our religious inclined friends about Pakistan: Fortress of Islam? So much for setting example.

I dont agree. I have applied twice in the last 5 years for urgent renewal and I received the passports within 15 days. I think you are just paranoid.

    • Why do you need to renew your passport twice in 5 years, by the ways?
Paranoid? after not getting passport in 22 days? I guess who’s paaranoid here.
