PESHAWAR, Jan 28: A police post was damaged in a blast on the outskirts of provincial metropolis on Monday evening.

An official said that policemen remained unhurt in the blast, occurred on Ring Road in the limits of Sarband police station. He said that an improvised explosive device was planted beside the wall of the post that went off at about 7pm.

However, Sarband SHO Khizar Hayat Khan, when contacted, avoided sharing information with media and said that nature of the blast could not be ascertained.

Police also recovered explosives and heavy weapons and took two persons into custody during a raid on a godown near Jamil Chowk on Ring Road.

The weapons include 80 hand grenades, 116 kilograms of explosives, 40 kilograms ball bearings and 25 mortar shells.

An official of Pando police station said that the godown was owned by Mehrban shah and Mastan Khan. He said that two persons were taken into custody in that connection but he didn’t reveal the name of the arrested persons.

In Khyber Agency, militants blew up a government school in Bara on Sunday night.

Officials said that a group of armed men planted huge quantity of explosives in government high school Khwaja Mir Kallay and detonated the same at around midnight.

The explosion damaged at least four rooms of the school. Local political administration registered a case against unidentified persons and started investigations.

In Swabi, the hostel of a private educational institution was damaged in a blast on Sunday night.

The educational institution, situated in the district headquarters, is owned by former provincial president of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Asad Qaisar.

Mr Qaisar, when contacted, told Dawn that the explosives were planted by unidentified persons in the hostel that went off at midnight. Luckily the blast caused no casualty, however, it damaged the building of the hostel, he added.

In Mohmand Agency, unidentified persons blew up a 132KV transmission line of electricity near Ekka Ghound on Monday.

According to officials, the electricity tower was destroyed when bombs, planted by unidentified militants, exploded at about 3am in the morning on Sunday.

They said that power supply was disconnected to Ghalanai and adjoining areas.
