MARDAN, Jan 28: Anjuman-i-Kashtkaraan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has asked the authorities to take appropriate action against the multinational companies for selling the poor farmers low quality seeds at high rates.

Talking to Dawn senior vice-president of the organisation Rahmat Shah Roghani said the seed producing multinational companies had been exploiting the poor farmers. He said these companies had been selling seeds to farmers at prices of their own choice.

He lamented that the companies were intentionally producing low yield hybrid seeds. “These multinational companies have joined hands to exploit us as we are forced to buy new hybrid seeds every year,” deplored Mr Roghani.

He also criticised the government for its inaction, leaving farmers at the mercy of cruel seed-producing companies.

He demanded of the government to encourage local companies to produce seeds of high yield at cheap price.
