LAKKI MARWAT, Jan 29: The students of Government Postgraduate College Lakki Marwat held a protest demonstration here on Tuesday against lack of facilities at heir hostels.
The protesting students also blocked the road outside the college’s main to press the authorities concerned for acceptance of their demands.
More than hundred students gathered on the road outside the college’s main gate and blocked the road. The closure of road, however, did not halt the traffic as passenger vehicles used an alternative route.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakhtun Students Federation president Hafiz Saeedur Rehman, vice president Arif Islam and other student leaders demanded of the authorities to provide natural gas to their hostels and make the canteen functional for them.
They also demanded provision of tour fund. They said that a traffic warden should be posted at Shaheed Abid Ali Chowk to help students embark on passenger vehicles.
The protesters also demanded transfer of the principal, saying the funds meant for repair of mosque should be utilised transparently.
The protesters opened the road and dispersed peacefully after holding successful talks with Assistant Commissioner Abdul Shakoor Dawar and other officials.
TEACHERS: Theology and Qari Teachers Association has demanded of the government to upgrade their posts like that of their other colleagues and restore the post of theology teacher in government middle schools.
The demands were made during a meeting of the association held in Government Higher Secondary School Naurang on Tuesday.
Sanaullah, Ikramullah, Habib Nawaz, Mohammad Sharif, Mohammad Ishaq, Raz Mohammad, Yaqoob Khan, Ghafoor Rehman and Maulana Abdul Jabbar spoke on the occasion.
They appreciated provincial government for implementing upgradation and promotion policy in education department. They said that the post of Qari should be upgraded to BPS-15 from BPS-12.
They called upon the government to restore the post of theology teacher in middle schools and additional increments for Qari and theology teachers for having BA and MA qualifications.
ARRESTED: Police claimed to have arrested two wanted men during a search operation on the outskirts of Lakki city on Tuesday.
An official said that the operation was launched in Chowki Jan and Abakhel when they got information about presence of outlaws in those localities.
He said that police arrested two proclaimed offenders during the operation.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Khan and Aleem Khan. The official said that they were wanted by police in murder, attempted murder and theft cases.
