The women’s World Cup opened in Mumbai yesterday with the cricketers hoping to put aside memories of the unsavoury build-up and gain their due recognition in a country where the men’s game reigns supreme.
Teams from Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies will join host India, for the global event which is being played from January 31 to February 17.
