ISLAMABAD, Feb 1: Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed on Friday assumed the charge of executive director Higher Education Commission (HEC).

On January 20, the governing board of the HEC selected Dr Mukhtar as the executive director and asked him to join the organisation within one week. However, he requested the HEC that he wanted to start his job from February 1.

It may be noted that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had on December 20 directed the HEC to appoint the new executive director within 30 days.—A Reporter
