PESHAWAR, Feb 1: A police patrol on Friday morning narrowly escaped a terrorist activity in Shinwari Town in Paharipura area here.

An official of Paharipura police station said an explosive device fitted to a timer and planted by a road went off at around 6am shortly after a police patrol van passed by.

An official of the police station said the explosive device weighed around 500 grammes and was packed in a canister.

He said investigation into the blast had begun after the registration of a case against unidentified terrorists.

However, according to him, no arrests were made by night.

97 OUTLAWS ARRESTED: Local police on Friday said they had arrested 97 outlaws, including 64 proclaimed offenders, and seized arms and ammunitions in Peshawar division.

The arrests and arms seizure were made during raids at different places in rural areas of Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera.

On the orders of the CCPO, SSP Imran Shahid had formed a special team to conduct the said raids.

A relevant police official said the seized weapons included 60 Kalashnikovs, five guns, 239 pistols, 1,885 rifle cartridges, 33kg hashish and 40 liquor bottles.

Also in the day, the city police said they had arrested 20 vendors for encroaching on the government land in different bazaars.

The arrests were made on the orders of the district administration, according to an official.
