QUETTA, Feb 1: Two Frontier Corps personnel were injured when a convoy of a Qatari royal dignitary came under attack in Kech district on Friday.

According to sources, Sheikh Ali Bin Abdullah was in the Mirani dam area when assailants opened fire from nearby mountains on FC personnel escorting his convoy.

A spokesman for the Frontier Corps said two soldiers were injured in the attack.

Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani told Dawn that Sheikh Ali Bin Abdullah and other members of his entourage were not hurt and reached their destination safely.

Sheikh Ali had arrived in the area on Thursday for hunting the migratory houbara bustard on a permit issued by the federal government.

Makran Division Commissioner Abdul Fateh Banghar said the convoy of 20 vehicles was going from one camp to the other.

Gwaram Baloch, a spokesman for the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), claimed responsibility for the attack and said that FC personnel were its target and not the royal family’s convoy.
