LAHORE, Feb 2: The westerly system that is expected to generate rain and snowfall in Pakistan intensified on Saturday.

The Met office said the intensification of the weather system means more rain and snowfall.

It expects widespread snowfall heavy at times over the hills of Malakand, Hazara, Murree, Galiyat, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Monday and Tuesday, while hailstones are also expected at isolated places in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, including Islamabad, during the period.

According to the Met office, heavy snowfall ranging from three to four feet may occur over the hills of higher altitude (more than 7,000 feet) and two to three feet over the hills at lower altitude (5,000 to 7,000 feet) during the period.

The heavy snowfall may cause the closure of link roads and the possibility of avalanches/landslides cannot be ruled out in the hilly areas.
