KARACHI, Feb 8: Highly talented Talha Zubair Surmawala has reached last four in two categories in the Sindh Open ranking tennis championship at Defence Authority Creek Club on Friday.

He went past Sikander Hayat Khan 6-3, 6-0 to reach men’s singles semis and chalked up a crushing 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jalaluddin Babar to earn a place in the junior’s under-17 singles quartet.

He recently captured the boys’ under-18 crown in the PTF Masters at Islamabad with a shock 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over top seed Mohammad Mudassir in the final.

Meanwhile, the brothers’ pair of Jalil Khan and Yasir Khan also sneaked into the men’s singles last four. The former coasted to 6-1, 6-1 win over Nawab Muzaffar while the latter defeated Malik Hamza 6-3, 6-3.Results:

Quarter-finals: Jalil Khan bt Nawab Muzaffar 6-1, 6-1; Yasir Khan bt Malik Hamza 6-3, 6-3; Talha Zubair Surmawala bt Sikander Hayat Khan 6-3, 6-0.

Ladies singles: First round: Neha Khan bt Rida Khan 6-1, 6-0; Hajra Nadeem bt Hania Naveed walkover; Saba Ahmed bt Rubina Masoom 6-1, 6-3.

Juniors’ under-17 singles: First round: Jalauddin Babar (Mirpurkhas) bt Irtaza Kamran 4-6, 6-0, 10-4.

Quarter-finals: Talha Zubair Surmawala bt Jalaluddin Babar (Mirpurkhas) 6-1, 6-0; Dawar Rehan bt Mohammad Raza Sawani 6-4, 6-2.

Boys’ and girls’ under-15 singles: Quarter-finals: Mohammad Raza Sawani bt Farzan Azher 6-1, 7-6.

Boys’ and girls’under-13 singles: Quarter-finals: Sahibzada Mohammad Ali bt Mohammad Ahmed 6-3, 6-0; Bilal Imran bt Zubair Raja 6-4, 6-2.

Boys’ under-11 singles: First round: Waqas Bhutto bt Mohammad Abdullah Ahmadani 9-7.

Quarter-finals: Amin Shafi bt Mustafa Admani 8-5; Mohammad Dada bt Mohammad Yahya 8-4.
