KARACHI, Feb 11: Sardar Altaf Hussain Tunio, an influential political figure of Kambar-Shahdadkot district and chieftain of the Tunio clan, on Monday announced joining the Pakistan People’s Party along with his family members and supporters.

He made the announcement during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM’s House.

MNAs Faryal Talpur and Nazeer Bughio, Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro and some other PPP leaders were present at the meeting.

Mr Tunio reposed his full confidence in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and provincial party chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Appreciating his decision, Mr Shah hoped that Sardar Tunio would work for the PPP with devotion and dedication.

Our Larkana correspondent adds: Sardar Tunio hails from Nasirabad and remained a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) since 2005, when his son, Khalid Tunio, was elected taluka nazim of Nasirabad. He enjoyed support of the Chandio and Unnar clans throughout his political career, according to MNA Nazeer Bughio.

Political circles believe that Sardar Tunio may be given the PPP ticket for a provincial assembly seat in the upcoming general elections.
