Sepa in a slumber

Published February 12, 2013

IT is horrifying that the Indus River, its barrages, its canals, channels and water courses are being polluted. Tons and tons of industrial, domestic and hospitals’ waste are being dumped and drained into the Indus River (Sindho Darya) and its canals.

Pleasant lakes and streams are being defiled in the province. The sworn enemies of environment have done everything to wreck the seafloor and stratosphere in Sindh.

The land and other natural resources are being abused in the province. Garbage and pollution are everywhere in the province. Nothing is being done to clean up the rivers, canals, channels, water courses, cities, towns and villages. Our relevant organisations such as Sindh provincial protection Agency (sepa) and others are as good as dead.

Environmentalists have long been pointing out the environmental pollution, wreck and ruin in the province but our ruling elite have not taken notice of it.

They have not realised the value of healthy ecology and environment for the life and growth in the province. I have logically concluded that the provincial rulers are blind to this environmental pollution, decay and destruction. However, I appeal to the provincial government to take pragmatic steps to save the ecology and environment in the province, particularly, in upper and lower Sindh districts where environmental and biological hazards have claimed the lives of several thousand children, women and elderly men and also those of millions of domestic animals.
