LAHORE: Managing director of the first Pakistan Super League (PSL) Salman Sarwar Butt has relinquished his post and has been replaced by former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad who is working as Director General PCB.
The PSL was to be held from March 26 to April 7 but it was postponed on Feb 8 for an indefinite period by the PCB who claimed that all stakeholders required more time for better planning.
Salman in his press statement stated that he had already intimated the PCB that he could not work with the PSL after April and since the league had now been postponed, he was parting ways.
“Before joining, I had intimated the PCB of my plans and commitments beyond April 2013 which would prevent me from working on future editions of the PSL.
“As the League is now most likely to be held after April, I will not be available to work further on this first edition. We have therefore mutually agreed that it would make sense to appoint a successor sooner rather than later,” said Salman.
“This has been a difficult decision to make, but my personal and professional commitments would preclude me from carrying on. I would naturally be happy to provide all possible assistance to PCB and PSL even if I am not officially associated with the League, and would remain an ardent ambassador of the PSL,” he added.
“A committee is working full time to find available and appropriate dates and we are hopeful that the process for the sale of various rights will restart soon. We are constantly in touch with all parties who have shown interest in our League and we hope to announce new dates soon.
“It has been a wonderful experience working on the PSL project and I am indebted to the PCB management for their confidence in our abilities to develop and manage a project of this magnitude,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf while wishing Salman well for his future, said, “Salman has provided invaluable services to the PSL and his dedication and commitment to the League will always be cherished. On behalf of the PCB, I wish him the best of luck.”
Miandad, speaking on the occasion, said, “I am pleased to lead the team until we appoint a new MD on a permanent basis to take the PSL forward. The PSL team recently shifted into new offices and is working with great enthusiasm on all aspects of the League.”
Meanwhile, the PCB press release also stated: “The PSL management is currently working on creating an available time slot in the near future to organise the League and the PCB will make an announcement on new dates as soon as possible.”
