PESHAWAR:Members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan's Darra Adamkhel faction told Dawn.com on Friday that the organisation's  chief of Darra Adamkhel area, Tariq Afridi, had died of wounds suffered a few months back.

The TTP Darra Adamkhel faction said that Tariq 'Gidar' was replaced by his close associate, Muhammad Arif 'Kaka' who belonged to the one of Darra Adamkhel's tribes.

TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan while talking to Dawn.com declined to confirm or deny the incident at the moment. When questioned about Tariq Afridi's spokesman, Mohammad, Ehsan said that he was 'no more' indicating that he had died a few days earlier.

Intelligence sources also confirmed that Tariq Afridi, the leader of the TTP's Tariq Afridi group, had died but added that there were two versions regarding his death.

According to one version there were reports that Tariq Afridi was killed by a relative  a few months earlier and according to another version he had died in infighting between different militant factions in Tirah valley's Dua Toi area near the border of Orakzai tribal region.

Earlier on Thursday reports were received of one of Tariq's very close associated was killed in a sniper attack in KHyber tribal region.
